Preparing the schedule for a project is not an easy task. It requires flexibility and the ability to foresee what may potentially happen, to draw up a detailed plan of actions, which will lead to achieving the goal. Application development is a process, which can be completed fairly fast, provided it is well-planned. How to arrange a good schedule for an IT project? What will guarantee the success? Who should be involved in planning the schedule?
What do you have to know to arrange an IT project schedule?
To draw up an effective plan, you are going to need as many details as possible in terms of the functions, appearance, and possibilities of the application. Identify the needs of your company and think what IT solutions would help you with the daily workload. If it seems to be a difficult task for you, make use of free consultation hours, which are offered by many experienced software houses like Kamee. Such a conversation will give you and the advisor the chance to find the best IT solutions to answer the needs of your business. It is good to use the help of an advisor experienced in planning and managing business projects.
What are the stages of your IT project?
When we think about bespoke application development, we tend to simplify the process by thinking solely about programming. However, an IT project starts, as we already know, much earlier: when you make a detailed analysis of your needs. This stage is followed by preparing the documentation and the mockup. Both of these documents include a description of the software and its functions, appearance, the number of the future users, etc. We can name all that the first point of your schedule. How long does it take? It will depend on the complexity of your company's needs. Smaller systems will be designed and developed faster, while the ones comprising of multiple modules require more time for planning, development, and testing. When hiring a certain software house, make sure the time they commit to preparing the mockup is not limited. Only then you can be sure that the mockup has all the visual and functional elements required to serve for the development of an application that will be effectively used in your company. This stage is key as it is the base for the following stages so take your time and use the experience of an experienced advisor from Kamee.
Once you have accepted the design and functionality of the mockup, we move on to programming. Depending on the complexity of your solution, the duration of this stage may be shorter or longer. You can find the exact time committed to this stage in the agreement signed at the beginning of the project. The agreement should specify how long each stage will be, which makes your IT project schedule clear and factual.
If the agreement says the period committed to programming will last 90 days, during that time, we will keep you up to date with the completed elements of the application. Our team will test it and you will also get insight into the development of the system. In this way, you and your employees will have the opportunity to get used to how the system will work, as early as at the stage of its development. This will make the following implementation stage run smoother.
The third stage of the IT project is testing the application by the client. During this period the software is still stored on our company's server. The presented final solution needs to be checked in terms of the elements agreed when preparing the mockup. To give you enough time to check all the functions, we leave 2 or 3 weeks for testing, depending on what was stated in the agreement. When you are certain everything is working the way it was supposed to, we can move to the last stage.
And that is the installation of the application on your chosen server. In this way, we get to the end of your IT project schedule, although you may also add an extra stage to your schedule, which would be the implementation of the solution in the company.
Why is it that important to prepare an IT project schedule?
A good plan helps to complete all the stages of the project precisely and in time. It guarantees effective cooperation and serves as a base for the tasks that are to be performed. You can tell how professional a software house is by looking at how detailed is their project schedule. Overly general information may become a problem in case of misunderstanding. That's why at Kamee, we sign an agreement which is thorough but also simple and clear. It aims to protect both the parties and, along with the schedule, guarantees an application tailored to your needs and developed without any delay.
